Fupower manufactures both cat-back and axle-back systems in T304 stainless with mandrel bends and TIG-welded flanges, and the distinction is simply where the cut is. A cat-back replaces everything from the catalytic converter rearward — mid-pipe, resonator where one is fitted, muffler, and tips. An axle-back replaces only the muffler section behind the rear axle: the muffler, a short section of connecting pipe, and the tips. Neither touches the converter, which is what separates both from a turbo-back or a cat-delete.
How they compare.
The part most buyers miss. The factory muffler is usually the restrictive piece, because it has to be quiet. That is where most of a cat-back's gain actually comes from — and both systems replace it. So the real-world gap between a cat-back and an axle-back is often smaller than the price gap suggests. There is a corollary worth knowing: when a manufacturer offers only an axle-back for your car, it is often because the factory mid-pipe already flows well enough that replacing it was not worth the money. That is a signal about your car, not a limitation of the product.
Weight is a benefit in its own right. A cat-back removes more pipe and more muffler, so it saves more weight — a titanium system can weigh roughly a third of the stock system, and titanium resists corrosion as well. If handling and braking matter to you, that counts.
Legality. Both keep the catalytic converter, so neither affects measured emissions — that is the key difference from a turbo-back or a cat-delete, and most cat-backs do not require a tune. Two caveats: where an emissions certification applies, verify the part carries it, since California's standards have been adopted by other states; and emissions compliance does not exempt you from noise limits, which are enforced separately and can be strict. A muffler or resonator delete is a different proposition again — it adds volume and drone and usually makes the sound worse, not better.
Fupower states the limits. Fupower does not publish one horsepower figure for these systems, because the gain depends on the engine, the pipe diameter, and whether the factory mid-pipe was already good. Fupower also does not present turbo-back or cat-delete configurations as street-legal.
