Vlog 01: Inside the Carbon Fiber Factory — Dry Carbon vs Wet Carbon, and Why It Matters

In Vlog 01, we took the camera into our carbon fiber workshop and sat down with Andy and Frank for a straight conversation about how carbon fiber parts are really made — what the factory actually specializes in, and why two parts that look identical can cost completely different amounts. What came out of that conversation is worth writing down. Because most buyers — and honestly, most sellers — have never been told the difference.

What This Carbon Fiber Factory Actually Does

Walking through the shop, Frank puts it plainly: this is a carbon fiber factory that builds carbon fiber air intake pipes — that's roughly 90% of everything we produce. Alongside the intake work, we also build carbon fiber panels and a range of other carbon fiber components for performance applications.

If it's an intake system and it can be made in carbon fiber, this is the kind of workshop that can build it.

Dry Carbon vs Wet Carbon — The Honest Version

Frank doesn't mince words in the video. Wet carbon is easier to make. That's exactly why it's everywhere.

Here's the comparison, side by side:

The short version: wet carbon is cheaper to make, and dry carbon is better in every way that affects the part on your car.

Why Prepreg, and Why We Don't Do Wet Carbon

We made a decision in this factory, and it comes down to three reasons.

1. Performance. Prepreg carbon is stronger and lighter than wet carbon. For an intake pipe — a part that sits on a boosted engine, sees heat cycles, and has to hold its shape — that difference isn't cosmetic. It's the whole point.

2. Consistency. Autoclave curing gives every part the same result. Wet layup depends on whoever mixed the resin that day.

3. The people in the shop. This is the part most brands never mention. Wet carbon production produces strong fumes — an unpleasant and unhealthy working environment. Prepreg production doesn't. Frank says it directly in the video: with prepreg, workers aren't breathing solvent all day long.

A part built in a clean process is a part we can stand behind. That's a manufacturing decision, and it's also an ethical one.

Why Dry Carbon Costs More — And Why Clients Still Choose It

Here's the part of the conversation that matters most for buyers.

Many customers have never been told what dry carbon and wet carbon actually are. They see two intake pipes, two similar photos, two listings — and one is far cheaper. What they don't see is that the production process is different, and that's what creates the price gap.

It isn't a markup. It isn't branding. It's the cost of materials, autoclave time, labor, tooling and yield — the real cost of building the part correctly.

And the market has already voted: most of our clients prefer dry carbon from autoclave production. Once you know the difference, the choice stops being difficult.

What This Means If You're Buying

If you're ordering carbon fiber for a build, ask one question: is it prepreg, and is it autoclave cured?

That single question separates a part that performs from a part that just looks the part. If the answer is fuzzy — or the price is suspiciously low — you now know why.
