In Vlog 04, Andy put the question that every custom buyer eventually arrives at. If a customer wants a unique color weave — red Kevlar, for example — or a specific matte finish, can Fupower actually make it?
Frank's answer was not a hedge, and it was not a maybe. It was a list.
"Red Kevlar and blue Kevlar, even purple Kevlar, and black, and matte black — all these colors are available. All the Kevlars."
That is worth unpacking, because "custom colors available" is a line that gets printed on a lot of websites and backed up by very few factory floors. So here is what is actually behind it.
Frank is describing a hybrid weave. The structural fiber is carbon. Part of the weave — usually a defined band running through the pattern — is aramid, which most of the world knows by its trade name, Kevlar.
The aramid tow is what carries the color. Red, blue, purple, and the deeper black-on-black patterns all come from the same place: colored yarn woven into the cloth before the part is ever laid up.
That distinction matters more than it sounds. The color is inside the laminate, not on top of it. It is not a paint, not a wrap, and not a printed film. It cannot flake off the surface, it cannot wear through where your hand rests on it, and it does not change color as the part ages — because there is nothing to wear away. What you see on day one is the same yarn you will see in five years.
Anyone can order a colored fabric. The reason it is worth asking about is everything that happens next.
Three real consequences follow from putting aramid into a carbon laminate, and they are the reason a colored part costs more than a plain one.
One: aramid behaves completely differently under a cutting tool. If you have seen Vlog 03, you already know where this goes. Cured carbon is hard but it cuts cleanly — it behaves like a very stiff, very abrasive plastic. Aramid does not. It is tough rather than hard, and it has a habit of fuzzing instead of severing. Where a carbon edge trims to a crisp line, an aramid-rich edge wants to fray. Trimming a hybrid laminate is a slower, more careful job, and it is one of the places where a cheap colored part gives itself away immediately: look at the edge, not the surface.
Two: aramid is more sensitive to ultraviolet light than carbon. Carbon is essentially indifferent to UV. Aramid is not — it degrades under prolonged sun exposure if it is not protected. In practice that means the clear coat on a colored weave part is not decoration. It is the component that decides whether the part still looks new after a few summers in a car park. A UV-stable clear coat on an aramid hybrid is a requirement, not an upgrade, and it is not somewhere to save money.
Three: the fibers wet out and drape differently. Aramid takes resin differently from carbon, and the two do not relax into a mold at the same rate. Getting the weave to sit flat and even — no distortion, no pulled pattern — takes a hand that has done it before. A stretched weave is obvious on a finished part and impossible to fix afterward.
Of everything Frank listed, matte black is the one that deserves its own section, because it is widely misunderstood in the opposite direction.
The assumption is that matte is the budget option — no polishing, less labor, cheaper. The reality is the reverse.
Matte hides nothing. Under a gloss clear coat, small imperfections are largely forgiven. The surface reflects light in a way that softens sanding marks, disguises a slightly resin-rich patch, and blurs minor weave distortion. Under a matte clear coat, every one of those things shows plainly. Matte scatters light instead of reflecting it, which means it renders the surface itself visible rather than the reflection on it. Every scratch in the prep stage, every uneven coat, every spot where the weave was worked slightly too hard becomes part of the finished appearance.
So a proper matte finish costs more than gloss on the same part, not less. It requires stricter prep, more careful handling, and a controlled environment. A matte part is a statement about process control — which is exactly why a well-executed matte black piece is worth paying for, and why a badly executed one is so easy to spot.
The second half of Frank's answer was about branding. "We can also print the logo for clients."
This is the point where a manufacturer stops being a parts supplier and starts being a production partner. A logo on a part is a commitment: it says the buyer is willing to put their name on the surface, and the factory is willing to build to a standard that justifies it.
What matters practically is not whether a logo can be applied — most finishing shops can do that — but where it goes. Depending on the part, a logo can be built into the surface during the finishing stage rather than stuck on afterward, which is the difference between a mark that sits on the part and a mark that is part of it. Placement, size and finish all need to be agreed before the part is laid up, not after it is cured.
If branding is on your roadmap, raise it at the enquiry stage. It is a five-minute conversation at the start and a very expensive one later.

Packaging sounds like the least technical thing in this article. In practice it is the last thing your customer touches before they form an opinion about everything else — and for a reseller, it is the difference between a shipment and a product.
Custom packaging for a client typically means the part arrives in cartons that carry the client's brand rather than the factory's, in sizes that suit the part, with the presentation a retail customer or a dealership expects. It is the same kit you would build for your own brand if you had your own factory. The advantage of asking a manufacturer to do it is that the packaging is specified alongside the part, by people who know the part's dimensions and fragility.
That line from Frank is the one worth remembering, because it explains why the colored weaves and the matte finishes and the logo printing all exist in the first place.
Fupower did not start as a carbon fiber company that occasionally makes pipes. It means you do not have to arrive with a finished drawing package. You can arrive with a drawing, a physical sample, a 3D file, or a concept and a photograph with dimensions marked on it. Material, color, weave, finish and branding get specified as part of the project, and the process works from whatever you actually have.
For a reseller or a workshop, that is the difference between "we don't stock that" and "we can build that."
