This one is dry carbon fibre, and the difference between dry carbon and the wet-lay guards sold cheaply matters in this application. Prepreg 3K twill cured in an autoclave gives a consistent wall thickness with no voids or resin-rich pockets, which is what determines how the shell behaves when something hits it -- a guard with voids will crack at the void instead of spreading the load. The clear coat is UV-stabilised, so it does not go yellow and chalky after a season in the sun the way an unprotected laminate does, which on an exposed part like this is most of what "looking after it" means.

The mechanism is straightforward: the shell follows the contour of the chamber and hands the impact to its own structure and to the mounting standoffs, so the load spreads across the guard instead of concentrating on a thin steel wall. A strike that would have left a dent in the diverging cone -- and cost you midrange -- leaves a mark on a replaceable part instead.

It mounts on standoffs that hold the guard clear of the pipe rather than clamping flat against it. That air gap keeps the laminate away from the hottest surface and gives mud and water somewhere to go instead of packing solid against hot metal. Fitting is by clamp and bracket to the chamber, no drilling, and it clears the standard radiator shroud, so the pipe springs and flange stay accessible.
