Product description
The naturally aspirated VQ platforms want a test pipe that maintains exhaust gas velocity for proper scavenging. The 2.5-inch diameter we offer for the G35 and G37 is sized specifically for the VQ's displacement and RPM range -- large enough to eliminate the factory restriction, small enough to keep exhaust gas moving fast enough to pull the next cylinder's charge out of the combustion chamber. Resonated variants use a tuned Helmholtz chamber to cancel the high-frequency rasp that straight pipes produce on a V6, giving the VQ a deeper, cleaner tone without packing material that burns out over time. The result is a sharper throttle, a stronger top end, and an exhaust note that finally sounds like the engine it is attached to.
The VR30 twin-turbo in the Q50 and Q60 is a completely different challenge. The factory downpipes cram dense catalytic converters inches from the turbine outlets, creating a thermal and flow bottleneck the moment the turbos spool. Catless downpipes remove that restriction entirely -- lower exhaust gas temperatures at the turbine, faster spool, sharper transient response, and a significant drop in backpressure that the VR30 rewards with measurable power gains. Available in SS304 for the standard tier and Grade 1 titanium for the premium tier, with blue burnt heat-treated finish that darkens with every drive. The Y-pipe option replaces the factory stamped merge collector with a smooth mandrel-bent junction that maintains cross-sectional area through the merge -- eliminating the turbulence and restriction where the two banks meet.
